Agostino Clemente in the IGF Italia Committee for Internet Governance

PRESS RELEASE

Agostino Clemente, partner at Ughi e Nunziante, has been designated as a member of the IGF Italy Committee, established at the Presidency of the Council of Ministers – Department for Digital Transformation. The Internet Governance Forum (IGF) was established in 2006 under the aegis of the Secretary General of the United Nations, with a multi-stakeholder participation model, with the aim of fostering dialogue and action on global Internet governance and policies. The IGF Italy Committee represents the national articulation of this important initiative and will be supported not only by the Department for Digital Transformation, but also by AGID, where the Committee Secretariat has been established.

The new Committee started its activities in September 2024, and is composed of 33 members, representing public administrations, businesses, the world of research and civil society. Agostino Clemente was nominated by the Union of Italian Provinces. A procedure for the selection of representatives by the companies themselves is still ongoing ( https://test-igf.agid.gov.it/ ).

The Internet Governance Forum in Italy has a long history of voluntary participation, started in 2008 under the chairmanship of professor and privacy guarantor Stefano Rodotà and supported over the years by the CNR and AGID. The recent regulation of the Committee’s formation marks an important step in the evolution of the debate on digital policies in our country.
In particular, the Committee is called upon to address increasingly crucial issues such as network and data governance, the role of artificial intelligence and cybersecurity. On these issues, the Committee will interact with Italian and international institutions, participating in the initiatives of the global Internet Governance Forum.
